I see that the date of birth for Livia has been changed several times, with the current (as of this writing) DOB making her 15 in the film rather than 13. It would be nice if somebody out there had a good source for the date that could settle the issue. If anybody has access to government records about her that would be useful. Her country of birth is not known but it has been alleged she was born in New York and is an American citizen. Other guesses include her being born in Greece, Cyprus, or Italy. One person has stated that she was a local in Cyprus who had an uncle working on the set who recommended her for the role. She was apparently working as a waitress at the time (possibly in her parent's restaurant which would allow for her to be as young as 12 per regulations) and after appearing in the film went on to become a stripper. These are just rumors, could be true or false but might help someone in the search for info so I repeat them here.

Piece of trivia: I found an article in the horror magazine "The Dark Side" (issue 78, April/May 1999) where on pg. 54 he states that two months after the main shooting for the film "I Mavri Emmanouella" wrapped he was asked by the producers to add some more shots of Laura Gemser, which he did in a one-day shoot in Rome. The significance of this is that it pushes back the latest date that Livia's nude scenes could've been shot, such that even if Livia was 14, she would've been just barely, barely, barely 14. (Film was released Feb. 1980, at least a few months would be needed to make copies of the film and book theatre showings, etc. plus another two months between principle filming and the added Gemser shots means the latest Livia's scenes could've been filmed was probably September 1979, when she was 14 and one month old.)

Edit: The article was about director Joe D'Amato, who is stated to have "supervised" the shooting of the film, though he was not the primary director. That is the person I am referring to in the sentence "... on pg. 54 he states that...", etc.

Of course Livia Russo is a star of this movie despite Laura Gemser also starring. Even about that time (1979) scenes were quite open and dare. In rape scene is a brief moment of spread legs by Livia. All her nude scenes are best in this movie and not any other. Actress is only 13 year old but she plays nude scenes very emphatically. If you compare all nude scenes in this movie you can see that Livia's scenes includes always the most full frontal time. Absolute peak achievement by young girl!

She was either 13 or 14 depending on whether her scenes were filmed before or after her August birthday - if she was 14, she was a young 14.

This young woman has one of the best, most provoking bodies I've ever seen - and I've seen a lot. And it is on full display here. No offense to Laura Gemser and the other ladies in the film, but I'm pretty sure Livia is the real draw here. On the DVD, they include the original theatrical trailer, and it includes a good portion of Livia's shower scene - a shrewd decision IMO, since I guarantee you that any man who saw that part of the trailer immediately said "I must see this film! I MUST see this film!" They probably thought that would be the most exploitative scene in the entire film - and then (spoiler alert) they get hit with the infamous full-nude rape scene at the end - Geeez Louise!!!

I own the DVD of "Emmanuelle's Daughter: Queen of Sados" (which now sells for around $200 bucks, but I bought it at a major bookstore chain for $30; they also sold DVDs) When I saw her scenes, I thought she was pretty young, but.... OMFG. Do the math. The film was apparently made in 1979. No wonder the British censorship board cut all her nude scenes.

Yeah, that was my reaction when I played my DVD of the movie for the first time. I could - not - believe - what I was seeing. Such was my reaction that, impulsively, I bought about ten copies of the thing (at the time, $30 per unit). Now they are selling on E-Bay (I think) for $200 dollars! I think in hindsight I made a wise investment!

After thinking about it a lot, I've decided that they could not have had sex after the scene ended. First, every other instance of sexual activity in the film is shown at least starting at a minimum, leaving no question as to whether sex occurred or was about to occur. In this scene they are nude but there is no sucking on nipples, fondling breasts, etc. which would imply more occurred when it faded to black. In the later scene with Mario, that intercourse occurs is unequivocal and definite. Second, it would make the rape scene at the end of the film much more anticlimactic if Livia were not a virgin when it happened. I mean, it's awful either way, but more tragic if it was her first time, especially since she could have had sex with her boyfriend but apparently passed up the opportunity, not knowing she would be raped shortly. Also, the scene where Emmanouella says that she sees a marriage in the tea leaves "... but there's a problem..." makes sense if the "problem" is that the bride lost her virginity to somebody other than the groom. (Though, this raises the question of just when she thought the marriage was going to take place, given Livia's presumed age based on that of the actress playing her - what's the minimum age of marriage in Cypress?)

Given how the hit-man Tommy (Gabrielle Tinti) treats some of the other women in this film , such as poor Illona, however, and the fact that he repeatedly interacts in a creepy manner with young Livia whenever their paths cross, the rape isn't out-of-the-blue or out of character, as I have read some assert on other websites commenting on this scene. Earlier I called the scene gratuitous, but this is so only in its explicitness, not in its occurrence.

I remember when I first watched this scene. When that first camera pan went from Livia's face and breasts down to her pubic hair and back up, my response was "FUCK yes! Oh, FUCK yes!" If that would've been it, that would've been more than I hoped for - but the scene CONTINUED! The second bit wasn't as close-up, but still showed everything. My favorite bit was the last part of the shower scene, in which she is on-screen quite long enough to make it painfully clear just how underdeveloped her teen body is - I mean, Jesus, they really rub it in. She turns to different angles, too, helping to make her figure/shape clear, especially her underdevelopment in the breast department.

(want to hear a really twisted theory? In the movie, her father Victor is portrayed as a scumbag and a pervert - the girl is walking down the stairs and sees dear old dad doing something I'm.... not sure I should describe to Emmanouella. And after he dies, when she's talking to Emmanouella as she (Livia) showers, she says that she despises her father. Kinda makes you wonder what he did, eh? (Hey, I didn't write the dialogue - if the director didn't want to leave this possibility open, he could've slammed the door on it.)

This scene is nice, but it does raise a glaring plot issue - namely, what actually happened between the two when the scene ended? At the end of the film (spoiler alert!), after the rape and right before he's shot dead by Emmanuella, the hitman Tommy clearly indicates that he believes he deflowered Livia. But in most American movie, if you see two teens nude, starting to lie down, and then the scene fades to black, the assumption is that the teens had sex. Yet the two give no verbal or other clue that this has taken place. So was she a virgin when she was raped, or wasn't she?

And the fact that you get another full-frontal view when she stands up afterwards is just icing on the cake. I can imagine that some of the men in the audience when this played at the soft-porn theatres may have, uh, had an involuntary response, the director gives them so much excuse.

This scene is why I bought the movie. The director gives the audience exactly what they were hoping for, big-time, and doesn't play a game of tease. And it's only about 16 minutes into the film. And the girl has one of the best bodies I've ever seen, bar none.

The director/producer certainly didn't hold back on the sleaze factor, did they? This has got to rate as one of the most over-the-top, gratuitous scenes in exploitation film history. Not that I'm complaining!
